Sacrament Preparation   arrow

Rite of Baptism

“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.  Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church –1213)

Baptism of First Child  Parents who are preparing to have their first child baptized (or who have never attended a class on Baptism of a child) are required to attend a baptism preparation class.  The class covers a basic study of the beliefs of the Catholic Church, a review of all the Sacraments, focusing especially on Baptism, and a video explaining the Rite of Baptism and its significance in the Church.  This class is usually held on the 4th Tuesday of each month (excluding July and December) from 6:30-8:30PM.  The class may be attended before or after the birth of the child; but must be attended before the Baptism of the child.  Contact Sr.Mildred-Busch@cdolinc.net.

After parents have participated in the Baptismal class, they can contact the Parish Office at stmichaelchurch@cdolinc.net.  At that time, the date and time for the Baptism will be scheduled.

Baptism of Children Beyond the First Child   Once parents have taken the Baptismal Class, they need not attend it again.  Either before or after the child has been born, parents are to contact the Parish Office at stmichaelchurch@cdolinc.net. At that time the date and time for the Baptism will be scheduled.

Reconciliation/First Penance

“Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church – 1422)

Preparation for First Penance is done through St. Michael Catholic School and St. Michael CCD Program.  Parents are asked to register students entering 2nd grade in the School or the CCD Program.  This is to be done prior to the school year.  Contact the school at 402.488.1313 or jessica-hagedorn@cdolinc.net for registration at St. Michael School.  Contact Deanne Stieb at 402.540.1890 or CCDcoordinator@gmail.com for registration for St. Michael CCD.

If for some reason children have missed the Sacrament of Penance in the “regular” grade, contact Sr.Mildred-Busch@cdolinc.net and special classes will be arranged.

First Communion

“The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church’s life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church – 1407)

Preparation for First Communion of children is done through St.

Confirmation

“For ‘by the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.  Hence, they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.’”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church –1285)

Preparation for Confirmation is done through St. Michael Catholic School and St. Michael CCD Program.  Parents are asked to register students entering 5th grade in the School or the CCD Program.

Rite of Matrimony

The Rite of Matrimony is a sacred and special Sacrament.  “The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator.  By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation and education of children.  Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrament.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church –1660)

To assist those who plan to marry, all couples will be required to fulfill the diocesan and parish marriage preparation policies; these are explained in the Marriage Preparation Process below.  This requires a minimum of 6 monthsContact the pastor at frborowiak@cdolinc.net.  Make this contact early to begin the marriage preparation process.

Anointing of the Sick

“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them.  And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church – 1499)

Individual celebration of the Anointing of the Sick may be done, upon request, prior to surgery or hospitalization.  Individuals or family members are to contact the pastor at frborowiak@cdolinc.net.
